The Case For Spencer Hawes

Spencer Hawes only recorded one rebound against the Kings in his last game but his fantasy value remains underrated.

Analysis: Despite a one rebound performance in 26 minutes against the Kings there is still a case to be made for Spencer Hawes. He’s averaging 6.6 RPG, 11.0 PPG, 1.8 BPG and is shooting 45% from the field over his last five games. Hawes is also averaging over thirty minutes per game in that span. He has power forward and center position eligibility and he is shooting a career high from the stripe this year(72%).

Take a look at the Sixers’ roster and tell me who is going to eat away at Spencer Hawes’ minutes down the road. Kwame Brown? That’s funny. The fact is that no one is going to stop him(a decent big man) from getting 25 minutes every night. His rebounds may hover in the 6-7 per game range but he blocks shots, scores ten points a game and is not a liability at the line. He’s available in half of fantasy leagues.

Up next for Hawes is Orlando Monday night.

Last Call On Spencer Hawes

Spencer Hawes now has three solid games under his belt since returning from an Achilles injury.

Analysis: Spencer Hawes has averaged 8.0 rebounds per game with 1.33 blocks per game in his last three games going back to last Saturday. Before the Achilles injury Hawes was averaging eights boards, nearly eleven points per game with a field goal percentage over fifty-five percent. Throw in a block and a half per game and you had/have yourself a fine fantasy center. Hawes is available in over fifty percent of fantasy leagues and he is a must own. He may not be the most reliable center going forward when considering his injury and some limited minutes, but he still produces very well.

There really isn’t anything that you want from a fantasy center that Hawes cannot do. His free throw shooting isn’t great but on the positive side… he does average 2.7 assists per game this year. His minutes may not reach back into the upper twenties any time soon but if he keeps getting twenty minutes per night he will not stay on the waiver wire much longer. Pick him up now and worry about his health later.

Blocks And Boards- Marcus Camby

When Marcus Camby is healthy he is a force in the fantasy world. Although the veteran is thirty-seven years old, he still has plenty of fantasy upside.

Analysis: In Camby’s three games this year his fantasy line looks like this- 11.3 RPG with 2.3 BPG. He has always and will continue to produce in rebounds and blocks. His points per game can hurt you but he does not shoot enough to hurt you in field goal percentage as a big man. His minutes have been in the mid twenty range in all three contests this year and if he continues to get those kinds of minutes he will be an asset to any fantasy squad.

Camby is available in well over half of all fantasy leagues and next to Spencer Hawes he is the hottest center on the wire. Camby has not played in over sixty games since the 2008-09 season but adding him will not hurt. You use Camby until he gets injured and pick him right back up a few days before he is ready to return to action. This is the tried and true method over the years concerning Marcus Camby and fantasy basketball.
