Deep League Help- Carter

Vince Carter may be thirty-seven years old but he is still filling up the stat sheet.

Analysis: Carter has been on fire over the last five games. In that span he’s averaging 3.2 threes made, 16.0 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.4 steals. His minutes remain in the mid-twenties so we can officially declare a prolonged hot streak. In the month of February he ranked as the 17th best fantasy shooting guard and the 17th best fantasy small forward. That is a pretty big leap considering he is outside the top 25 for his positions this season.

The three ball remains Carter’s biggest asset. He averaged 2.0 threes made per game last month and this year he is 13th in threes made among shooting guards. At thirty-seven years old Vince is 8th in the NBA among shooting guards in blocks per game(0.4), it isn’t much but everything can help.

He may not put up twenty-plus points each night but he is contributing in all fantasy categories. Currently, Vince Carter is available in 50-80% of fantasy leagues. Carter has the Spurs on Sunday, the Nuggets on Wednesday and the Blazers on Friday.

Vince Carter Has Value

Vince Carter is four games in to his return from a foot sprain and his stock is surprisingly on the rise.

Analysis: In Vince Carter’s four games back from injury he’s averaging 15.5 PPG, 3.8 RPG and 2.0 3PM per game. Carter has averaged twenty-nine minutes of floor time in that span, up seven minutes from his season average of twenty-two minutes per game. Vince has always hit the threes and shot very well from the stripe and this year is no different. If his minutes stay up, I cannot see a reason why owning him wouldn’t be an option for fantasy owners. The shooting guard/small forward is available in seventy percent of fantasy leagues.

Carter is giving you everything you need from a lower tier shooting guard/small forward- he’s knocking down threes, hitting free throws, grabbing enough boards and has five steals in his last three games. Throw in the three and four assist games he’s had recently and you have yourself a productive little fantasy player. There is a concern that he will slow down or injure himself again but you have to ride the hot hand for as long as you can in this case. Vince Carter actually has some fantasy value, who would have thought?

Piece of Crap: Vince Carter’s 2011 Fantasy Season

Vince Carter has been in obvious decline over the past few years, but this year has all but sealed his fate. He no longer has the potential to be an impact fantasy player.

Analysis: Carter put up 28 points in his last game on March 30th, but that has not happened with any consistency this year. He is averaging a paltry 14 points a game, which is on par with what Beno Udrih is putting up this season. Carter’s fall from grace has gone further with him shooting roughly 42% from the field. His assists, rebounds, and steals are all down significantly from the last few years too. Carter averaged 22 points, 5 boards, and 4 dimes on his career, but I think it is safe to say he won’t reach those numbers ever again. I was surprised by his fantasy production this year, because I really thought the excellent training staff in Phoenix would whip him into shape. If the same Phoenix staff who got the Shaqtus back in to shape can’t fix Carter than he doesn’t stand a chance. Throw in the fact that he is playing with one of the best pure point guards in the league and, simply put, Carter is a big piece of crap this year.

Projection: Phoenix is not going to make the playoffs this year and Carter will have little reason to finish out the season very strongly. Carter should not still be on your fantasy team, there are plenty of better alternatives on the waiver wire.
