Shooting Guard Help- Tony Allen

Tony Allen has been one consistent guard over the last few weeks. He’s always been a guy who can get you steals but he’s taking his game to another level.

Analysis: Tony Allen is averaging 1.8 steals, 11.4 points, 4.6 rebounds with 2.8 assists over his last five games. Allen is also shooting nearly 80% from the line this year with a field goal percentage a shade under fifty percent. Allen is producing very well in six fantasy categories yet he is available in over sixty percent of fantasy leagues. He is a shooting guard and while he doesn’t hit many threes his production cannot be ignored.

Allen is eighth in the NBA in steals per game with 1.75 per and second in the NBA in steals per forty-eight minutes. He’s averaging 26.0 minutes per game for the season but his recent hot streak has seen his minutes rise to just under twenty-eight per game. Every extra minute matters when his production has been so diverse. Allen is as consistent as they come in terms of steals and with his new found scoring touch and rebounding his fantasy game is finally balanced.

Blocks And Boards- Tristan Thompson

Tristan Thompson is getting tons of minutes at center and the fantasy world is taking note.

Analysis: Tristan Thompson may only be 6’9″ but his play at center is what really matters. Thompson’s last three games have been stellar, averaging 9.3 rebounds per game, 1.6 blocks per game to go along with 18.3 points per game. While his points production will not last, his blocks and boards are here to stay if his minutes remain in the thirty plus range. Thompson was drafted for defense with the fourth pick of the 2011 NBA draft and that is exactly what he is providing for the Cavs at the moment.

In twenty-two minutes per game this year Thompson is averaging six boards and one block but with his minutes into the upper thirties he is just flat out producing. He does offer power forward/center dual position eligibility which is always a plus. The truth is, he’s starting now and is working with starter’s minutes… he’s here to stay. Thompson is available in over eighty percent of fantasy leagues and if you are in need of blocks and boards going forward then he is your man.

Last Call On Spencer Hawes

Spencer Hawes now has three solid games under his belt since returning from an Achilles injury.

Analysis: Spencer Hawes has averaged 8.0 rebounds per game with 1.33 blocks per game in his last three games going back to last Saturday. Before the Achilles injury Hawes was averaging eights boards, nearly eleven points per game with a field goal percentage over fifty-five percent. Throw in a block and a half per game and you had/have yourself a fine fantasy center. Hawes is available in over fifty percent of fantasy leagues and he is a must own. He may not be the most reliable center going forward when considering his injury and some limited minutes, but he still produces very well.

There really isn’t anything that you want from a fantasy center that Hawes cannot do. His free throw shooting isn’t great but on the positive side… he does average 2.7 assists per game this year. His minutes may not reach back into the upper twenties any time soon but if he keeps getting twenty minutes per night he will not stay on the waiver wire much longer. Pick him up now and worry about his health later.

Deep League Assists- Beno Udrih

Beno Udrih isn’t really on anyone’s radar at the moment but he should be.

Analysis: Beno Udrih has at least five assists in five of his last six games. He’s averaging 6.6 assists per game and 1.16 steals per game in that six game span. For a point guard/shooting guard that is available in ninety-nine percent of fantasy leagues… those are some solid numbers. Udrih is only averaging 18.7 minutes per game this year but over the past two weeks he has been getting about twenty-four minutes per night. Udrih is also a career 83% free throw shooter but he doesn’t get to the stripe often enough to really be a huge value there.

On the negative side, Udrih doesn’t rebound the ball well for a guard nor does he take a lot of threes. Obviously with a guy available in just about every league you really cannot be too picky about what he can’t do. What he has been doing well can be found in the assists department. It’s hard to ignore 6.6 assists per game over his last six contests. His minutes are up and he just may be worth a look in deep leagues.
