Week 12 WR Recap

Nate Burleson returns from injury while James Jones and Jarrett Boykin benefit from the Scott Tolzien benching.

Analysis: Nate Burleson was having a solid season up until his arm “injury.” In the three games prior to his injury Burleson caught 19 balls on 23 targets. He was back at it again Sunday posting 7 receptions on 10 targets for 77 yards and a score. He is the clear cut number two option in the Detroit passing game which makes him a must add. At the moment Burleson is available in 65-97% of fantasy leagues.

Matt Flynn stepped in for Scott Tolzien and no one benefited more than James Jones. Jones caught 7 balls on 12 targets for 80 yards. It may not matter if Aaron Rodgers returns this coming week in regards to Jones’ fantasy value as long as Matt Flynn is at the helm. Jones is available in 5-10% of fantasy leagues.

Another wide out getting lost in the Aaron Rodgers/Scott Tolzien/Matt Flynn mess is Jarrett Boykin. Boykin recorded 60 receiving yards and a touchdown on Sunday afternoon against the Vikes. Boykin now has five 60-plus receiving yard days in his last six games, he also has 2 touchdowns in that span. Boykin is still available in 5-50% of fantasy leagues.

Passing On Ted Ginn

Ted Ginn recorded 71 receiving yards on 3 receptions with 1 touchdown on Sunday afternoon against the New York Giants.

Analysis: Ginn now has 133 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns over his last two contests. This all seems promising but he isn’t without fantasy concerns and the first of which is reliability. Ginn was only targeted 4 times against the Giants and only 13 times this year over three games. To put those targets in perspective Josh Gordon of the Browns was targeted 19 times today, he is available in about 10% of fantasy leagues.

Yes, Ted Ginn is a playmaker but 13 targets over three games won’t get it done week in, week out. He is worth roster consideration but cannot be trusted as a WR3/Flex option. He has a bye in week four so I doubt there will be a rush to pick him up. At the moment Ginn is available in 97-99% of fantasy leagues. A guy like Nate Burleson makes more sense here. Burleson has been targeted 23 times this year and has 19 receptions to Ginn’s 7. Burleson is available in 65-95% of fantasy leagues.

Last Call On Titus Young

Titus Young is set to break out as he steps into the number two wide out role in Detroit.

Analysis: Nate Burleson is out for the year with a broken leg and Titus Young is the unquestioned number two in Detroit. With that in mind, Titus Young came to play Sunday. The second year wide out had the first 100 yard game of his career and his second two touchdown game as a pro on Sunday. We all know the Lions love to sling the rock and Titus Young recorded nine receptions on nine targets Sunday. He may only be owned in about half of fantasy leagues but he is a WR3/FLEX option with the potential for more. Young has caught 15 balls for 181 receiving yards over the past two games and in doing so made himself a PPR league stud. Prior to week seven Young had only one game where he caught more than two balls(week three).

With what is out there on the wire you have to like your chances with Titus Young over guys like Cecil Shorts and even Sidney Rice. It’s last call on Titus Young.
